Trailer Knock-Out Dutch tour

After the international success of Horror and Lebensraum, the Jakop Ahlbom Company has co-produced this performance with ISH Dance Collective and DeLaMar Theater. In Knock-Out, the physical scenes are tumbling over each other as in a rollercoaster. The performance is filled with spectacular acrobatics and visual effects. The audience is not given any time for reflection, but in stead they are sweating in their seat with an increased heart rate. This is a tribute to the action movies from the 70’s and 80’s.

Gambling addict Larry and his unhappy wife Buffy are kidnapped. His very wealthy father receives a request for ransom – if he pays, the couple will be released. While they are waiting for the ransom, some unwelcome guests arrive at the door. The confusion grows and everyone starts fighting with everyone else in an ultimate attempt to keep the money safe.

All physical limits are stretched in Knock-Out. People are dangling in the sky for too long, and they are squashed against a wall after which they continue to fight as if nothing has happened. And then there is also the mysterious cowboy with his guitar, who sings during all the events.

Knock-Out is a physical comedy about greed and stinginess, inspired by the Coen Brothers and Jackie Chan films.

About our companies

Jakop Ahlbom Company developed a trademark theatrical form that unites theatre, mime, dance, music and the world of illusion. The company has an unique talent for combining powerful visual language with equally powerful content. Based in Amsterdam but we share our stories all over the world.

ISH Dance Collective is a collective of determined individuals. Since 2000 ISH has formed a connection with people by surprising them. ISH is where street skills meet established forms of art. The performances resonate for their innovation; tailor-made showcases and educational projects bridge the gap between art forms, disciplines and cultures. ISH does not believe in borders.

Jakop Ahlbom (1971) was born in Sweden. In the early 1990s he moved to the Netherlands where he studied Mime at the Amsterdam School of the Arts. Upon his graduation in 1998 he was presented with the Top Naeff Award for the most promising student. His gift for choreography had been noticed – and so had his poeticism and his ability to get his cast to unleash their energy, bravado and physicality. The award jury described him as an eager, outstanding and exuberant talent. After graduating he worked with a variety of theatre makers as a performer, choreographer and director.

Marco Gerris (1976) was educated at Antwerp’s Herman Teirlinck Drama Institute, the Higher Institute for Dance Education and the Open Living Theatre (Antwerp). In the late nineties, he worked as a dancer, skater and actor. During this period he spent most of his time at the Vondelpark in Amsterdam, which inspired Gerris to create ISH.
